New products are being developed constantly. We keep up with developments, but balance the choice of product considering all factors including the use of locally sourced products where feasible.

Below are listed some of the products we prefer to use and their benefits.

CLS Canadian Lumber Standard timber produced from managed forests, graded for structural use, exacting standards of straightness and dimensional accuracy.
OSB Oriented Strand Board, an alternative to water resistant plywood manufactured from wood strands bonded together with resin glues.
Eco Joists Engineered highly accurate and strong joists formed with timber flanges and pressed steel diagonal struts. Benefits include flat ceilings and floors, large spans, light handling, minimum use of materials, ease of services installation.
Glulam Beams These are beams made to any length from resin bonded timber strands or sections and are a timber alternative to steel or concrete.
Renderlath A purpose made three layer mesh system consisting of a backing plastic sheet with slow moisture release paper layer behind the mesh wires
Weber Pral Eco Clima A dry mix pre-coloured lime based mortar. Benefits include water resistance, low contraction and no painting low maintenance.
Trusses These are structural timber frameworks with pressed steel connections. They are light and strong, can form any roof angle and incorporate space in a roof if required and can be erected quickly on site. Only infill hips and valleys need to be cut and fitted on site
Apollo Ecobrite A low emissivity, high reflection foil developed by NASA for space projects. Benefits include additional heat reflection and retention, air tightness.
COBERT Roof Tiles These dry concrete roof tiles are supported on treated battens and do not need to be bedded in mortar as is required for pantile systems.

Why use so much insulation in a hot climate?

Insulation reduces the energy required for heating and cooling, reducing the required size of boilers, solar panels and cooling equipment. Even in a hot climate there are approximately three months of the year when temperatures can be cold enough to require heating.

Is a timber frame a problem in hot weathers?

Timber framed buildings are used all over the world in cold climates, (Scandinavia) and hot places (Australia and the USA) and have a very good record. It is estimated that approximately 70% of the world’s population live in timber framed buildings. Timber frame in Spain is very good alternative.

Our Construction

Don’t be fooled by log cabins or garden buildings: Our construction of a very high quality. Once the work is complete it is hard to tell it is constructed in Wood. With our double skin of OSB sheeting the building feels solid and sound transference is low.

Is it expensive?

Generally it is competitive to a traditional build but it should be remembered that build quality is higher and improved thermal insulation and inclusion of solar energy reduce gas and electricity consumption.

Does it take a long time to build?

With much of the fabrication of the structure performed off site it is erected quickly and cleanly on site. There are many opportunities to perform work in parallel and installation of services is far easier.

Are termites a problem?

Termites exist in Spain and the timber frame should be treated against these. Termites require a damp enclosed environment to live. Suitable detailing and, where necessary, the incorporation of a termite barrier will prevent them from becoming a problem

What about fire?

All timber frame buildings have to comply with fire regulations and there have been extensive studies made of timber frame construction action in fire situations. Although the general perception is that wood burns it actually requires substantial heat to start burning and then chars in a regular way, whereas steel, both in concrete and exposed, soon loses strength on heating.
